Scope

Morsleben is located close to Hannover in Germany. It is a salt-mine out of use, which is now used to perform different tests and evaluations for the repository of nuclear waste. The installation in Morsleben was an in-situ test to evaluate different new developed types of sensors:

  • Strain cable to measure strain in different layers in a borehole.
  • Fissurometer to measure cracks and displacement in rock surfaces.
  • Water leakage sensors to measure water leakages from the rock surface.

During the 3 year test run everything needed to be evaluated, both the sensors as well as the measurement system. At the end of the project all sensors and measurement equipment needed to be dismantled to check the integrity of the system.
