PHOSFOS (Photonic Skins For Optical Sensing) is a research project funded by the European Commission 7th Framework (FP7-ICT). PHOSFOS started in April 2008 and will run for 3 year. The project aims at developing flexible and stretchable foils that integrates optical sensors based on silica and plastic optical fibres. Moreover, the foils can also include both the optical and electrical powering as well as onboard signal processing and wireless communications. FOS&S is primarily involved in the FBG-writing process and in the exploitation of the envisaged end-products.
