Protection of Acropolis

FOS&S has been contacted from governmental officials and scientists in order to assist on the research regarding the protection of Acropolis.

Most of the damages that it has are the work of man and not of nature's. This is why scientists have set out to further investigate the building and to find out if there is any way to protect against the possible natural disasters that might occur in the future. Acropolis's scientists have requested the latest technology to install. They expect their findings will help identify areas that could be vulnerable, allowing them to target restoration and maintenance.

The fiber optic sensors are there to detect even minor changes in the structure: slight expansion during hot weather, contraction in the cold of winter, the build-up of pressure from a particularly heavy rainfall.

A large network of barely visible devices, comprising fibre optic sensors and accelerometers, is being installed, in order to indicate what the most vulnerable regions are, whenever a natural phenomenon affects the site.
