Displacement measurement in the Hsueh Wu Tunnel

Objective

The objective of the project is to measure displacement in the Hsueh Wu Tunnel. The tunnel was completed in 1994.The weight of the mountain is pushing on one site of the tunnel and causes movements of the tunnel down to the valley. In addittion the parts inside and outside the mountain have different sinking and moving characteristics. As a consequence, the road where the tunnel is located was damaged and the connecting area of the tunnel was broken. The worst damage was caused by heavy rainfall during a typhoon in August 2004.

The measurement system that has been installed in the Hsueh Wu Tunnel consists of 11 Displacement sensors D-01 and the FBG Datalogger of FOS&S. The displacement sensors are mounted on the wall of the tunnel to detect movements between two anchoring points.
